My grand daughter is living with her mother now. She is still worried occasionally that someone will show up at the door and take her away. She still reassures me on occasion that she doesn't ever hav to go back to the foster home anymore. She's very proud of that. I wonder how much of this she will consciously remember later on and I wonder how much fear of abandonment she will continue to suffer. When she's with me she tends to really become upset if she can't find me. When we visit other people she will become extremely upset if she looks up and sees me gone from sight. She told me that she is afraid she will be left behind and have to live there. I wish there was some way to make the people at DFCS understand what they are doing to the children they seize. After more than a year of reading and listening in addition to what our family has experienced first hand, I see that it's a really rare case where it's actually necessary to separate a child from their family. But it is a really rare case where they don't first do that and ask questions later. This really needs to stop but I don't know what it would take to do that. _________________ Our children are us and all we've shown them. |
